For an event built around equine performance, welfare and the partnership between horse and rider, there could hardly be a more fitting organisation to have alongside us.

Located in Sydney’s south-west, Equine Centre Camden is a specialist equine hospital and ambulatory veterinary service providing comprehensive care for horses ranging from much-loved pleasure horses through to elite equine athletes.

The Centre brings together specialist and highly skilled equine veterinarians, veterinary nurses and animal attendants, with a particular focus on equine sports medicine, surgery, diagnostics and ambulatory care. As part of the University of Sydney’s Veterinary Teaching Hospitals, its clinical work is also supported by research, education and specialist expertise across multiple veterinary disciplines.

Supporting the equine athlete

For eventing riders, keeping horses healthy, comfortable and performing at their best is an ongoing process, and this is an area in which the Equine Centre Camden team has considerable expertise.

Their Equine Sports Medicine service provides assessment and treatment for lameness, poor performance and other conditions affecting the equine athlete. Services include lameness investigations, joint therapies, rehabilitation and return-to-work planning, dynamic upper-airway endoscopy, gastroscopy and cardiac assessment.

Importantly, the team has access to advanced diagnostic technology on site, including digital radiography, ultrasound, MRI and nuclear scintigraphy, allowing veterinarians to investigate more complex injuries and performance issues and develop informed treatment and rehabilitation plans.

Specialist veterinary care when it is needed

The Equine Centre Camden also offers specialist surgical services, supported by dedicated operating facilities, specialist anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging and pathology.

The hospital is equipped for a range of orthopaedic and soft-tissue procedures, including arthroscopic surgery, selected fracture repairs, airway procedures, wound reconstruction and other elective surgical cases.

For horse owners who would prefer their horse to be assessed at home or at their training property, the Centre also operates an extensive ambulatory veterinary service, with fully equipped vehicles servicing the region. Its equine ambulatory emergency service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

From routine care to breeding and pre-purchase examinations

Equine Centre Camden's services extend well beyond performance horses and injury management.

Horse owners can access routine and specialist veterinary services, reproductive services and comprehensive pre-purchase examinations.

Pre-purchase assessments can be tailored to the horse's intended use and may include clinical examination, gait and lameness assessment, radiographs, ultrasound, blood testing, upper-airway endoscopy and reproductive assessment where appropriate.

The Centre also provides specialist reproductive care for mares and stallions, including artificial insemination with chilled and frozen semen, embryo transfer, Ovum Pick Up (OPU) and investigations into fertility problems.

On course with Sydney Eventing

One of the things we particularly value about our partnership with Equine Centre Camden is that their support extends beyond simply placing their name on our event.

The Equine Centre Camden veterinary team will also be in attendance throughout the competition, providing veterinary support to our horses and riders on the ground.

Having experienced equine veterinarians available at an event such as ours is an essential part of maintaining the welfare and safety standards our sport demands.
